Here is a story that shattered my heart while raising awareness about human trafficking (http://www.freewebs.com/baht/).
A sixteen year old girl was impressed by a man who told her how pretty she was and asked her to go to a party in Chicago with him. She said yes and got into his car. He gave her a drink and 8 hours later, woke up at a truck stop. The man said to her, “Do you know who I am, I am a pimp.” He then proceeded to tell her that she was going to go service a trucker with sex. She resisted, but he told her if she didn’t then he would kill her. She had a choice, and chose the lesser of two evils. She was entrenched into this market until she was 21 when she was rescued.
This woman now works in an organization called Breaking Free: Sisters helping Sisters Break Free (http://www.breakingfree.net/) to help women that have been trapped in the same situation. Praise the Lord!
I also learned these shattering statistics.
- Human trafficking is a 30 billion dollar industry.
- 27 million people are being used as slaves right now.
- 800,000 are trafficked each year.
- 3,000 Sudanese were recently purchased for $15,000 ($5.00 per person).
- Pimps no longer just roam the streets, they roam the chat rooms.
The bible says that “The fear of the Lord is to hate all evil” Proverbs 8:13. Our battles in life start in our minds. The only weapon that the devil has is lies. Jesus took every other weapon from him on the cross (Col 2:15). We have the right to choose to accept these lies or reject them.
The human trafficking industry was started by lies from the devil and continues with lies from the devil. Greed, power, and lust are the heart of this industry- causing human life to be treated as an object.
Do we fight a battle of flesh and blood? Or is our battle against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places (Ephesians 6:12)?
