This past week I returned from the World Race training camp. It was an amazing experience to finally be able to meet everyone on the expedition squad in person. God has made each one of us different in our own unique ways. We have introverts, extroverts, thinkers, those who are impulsive, nurses, military, artists, those in ministry, construction workers, engineers, golf pros, handyman, nannies, landscapers, those who have traveled a lot and a few who have never left the country to name just a few. We all have different strengths that will bless God and our teams. We also have different weakness that we can use to help each other grow through as we share life together.
But one thing I know is that the titles we use for each other do not mean much to God. One title does not make you better than the next person to God; even though it does in the world’s eyes. There is only one title that God wants to see us embrace and that is a Son/Daughter of Christ. “God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.” Ephesians 1:5
One of my squad leader Jeremi made a great point regarding who we are in Christ. He said, “ we need to stop saying that we are a sinner saved by grace, but need to embrace the fact that we are son’s of God who are saved by grace. God has forgot our sins and just sees us as sons and we need to do the same.”
I am the son of a King. I share in His inheritance right now as I go about life. There is a power that I can tap into as I spend time in prayer with my Heavenly Father. God is always there for me. I realized this concept as I was dwelling on the fact that my relationship with God was not where I wanted it to be, especially after this past summer, and I felt unprepared for the training camp. God had to remind me that He called me to the world race a long time ago and He knew that I would mess up and make mistakes along the way and even during the race. Yet He still called me to the race because He believes in me. I don’t need a perfect record or earn some title to spread His love and fame. Just as my dad always believed in me and pushed me as a kid to do my best no matter how many times I made a mistake or said I could not do it.
So to me it does not matter who I am in this world. All that matters is that I am a son of God who has said YES to the call of God on my life. I also strive to view others in this way, I don’t want to view others as better or more effective in ministry because of some job description or personal highlight reel. I want to view them as a son or daughter of God who has said yes and is pressing into all that God has for them because God will always honor and reward a heart that is willing to serve Him.
So I am excited to share life with 32 others from the expedition squad as well as “Dragon Fist Storm” The team of seven that God has set me up with to share God’s love as sons and daughters of the King.
