The day before we were to leave Calcutta, we got a phone call from our squad leader Jeremy. God used the team he was with and a small alley lined with shops to start a church. The first day in Calcutta the team “beast mode” was walking down the street, they talked to a man and asked if they could pray for him, he took them to his shop and they ended up praying for the man’s father. That man was healed and was so excited he started to tell everyone. Before they knew it the team was praying for many people and people were being healed like crazy.
These healing continued as they went back each day, people would come and line up to be healed and about 90% were healed. We were asked to continue what God was doing and press into disciplining the people who we had good contact with. Each day we go to what we now call miracle street from 12-3 pm we pray for many to receive healing in the name of Jesus. We teach them that we have no power, but Jesus has the power as we cast out the pain in Jesus name.
It is so cool to see Jesus make his name known in a country with 3 million Gods. He is definitely making his name known in that area and word was getting out that the white men carry Jesus with them. One day as we were fifteen minutes away from miracle street a man stopped us and asked us to pray for his elbow. He was healed and all of a sudden a new miracle alley is opened and many people were healed. It is so cool to see how God is using us to show his power and who His Son is.
One crazy story of people coming after us was seen one night as Spencer and Jeremy were walking home after dinner. A man ran after them asking for them to pray for his aunt. They arrived at the house and prayed for everyone there. But crazy thing was that this was the house of the family of our hotel owner that we have been getting to know. So crazy how God works. We had more contacts and have even been able to pray for many more and even give one young man there a bible. God is good and will work in crazy ways as we step out to serve Him and are willing to be interrupt-able.
It has been wonderful to see God do so many healings, but it has been a privilege to be called into people’s houses to pray for their family members who are suffering from pain. In many of these houses the pain does not leave after one prayer, God is using the pain to establish a relationship as we continue to go back and have a relationship with the families. We have been blessed to have many great english speaking contacts in the houses that we visit as well and be served tea and food.
Please continue to pray for breakthrough in their lives as we will pass them off to the local believers for further ministry and discipleship. Pray that God fills us up each day because praying for many people each day can really drain you. Especially when it is hot and there is a big language barrier. It is funny though since we can speak some of their language, mostly to figure out where the pain is and if they are feeling better. They assume we know the whole language and always talk like we can understand them. We just look at them confused and shrug our shoulders and smile.
