I’m a 27 year old teacher who is stepping out of the classroom for the next 11 months to share the love that Christ has showered me with. I will literally be turning 28 years old days before the launch and I’ll be able to go into a new year with a beautiful purpose and mission. I’m stoked and freaking out at the same time but all is good! I’ve lived in the same house for the past 26 years (except for the 3 years I spent away working on my undergrad). I’ve grown up in Garland,TX and my college town was Lubbock, Tx. However since I was 4 months old I’ve been spending a lot of time with my family in a small town in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. I currently live with my parents Alberta and Victor Torres and my older sister Abby, younger sister Zina and soon to be 2 year old niece Ava Victoria.

What’s impacted me the most are the mountain tops and valleys that we go through on this journey called life. Which have made me into the woman I am today, full of life. I’ve grown up in church since I was 8 years old, but I didn’t fully surrender until I was 23 years old on October 20th, 2011, a date that is very dear to my heart! I graduated from college 2 months after that date and my life changed dramatically. I saw God move in my life, heart, mind and strength like never before. The change was inward and once it began to reflect on my exterior people started approaching and asking me “what happened?”, all I could reply with was, “Jesus”. I can’t wait to share my love for Christ and His love for us to everyone I encounter!
My interests are traveling! I love long drives, and no I’m not kidding. I’ve traveled to San Luis Potosi, Mexico by land since I was an infant. I find it soothing and relaxing to just kick back and sleep. Which takes me to my next interest, napping. I love to take naps outside during the summer and especially on the beach. Which have led to several sunburns but nothing some aloe vera can’t fix. I have been to almost all the beaches in Texas (which aren’t many) but I try to get my beach fix every 6 months. Every time I look at the ocean I’m reminded of 3 things.
- When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. Isaiah 43:2
- Once again you will have compassion on us. You will trample our sins under your feet and throw them into the depths of the ocean! Micah 7:19
- And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. Ephesians 3:18
My love and passion is inside of the classroom! It doesn’t matter what type of classroom, where it’s located, or what the age group of my students is I just love to teach. I stepped into a 1st grade classroom on March 4th, 2014 and I haven’t stepped out since. I moved up to 2nd grade and 3rd grade with the same group of kids. Leaving the classroom for the World Race will be a HUGE change in my life and I know it’s going to be an adjustment. So if you’re on my squad during the World Race brace yourself for ALL the stories I will be sharing.
Being a teacher has taught me how to love the unlovable, accept the outcasts, speak life into dead situations, and share wisdom with the lost.
My spiritual gift is teaching! I remember being 5 years old and saying, “I want to be a teacher when I grow up” I remember almost every adult in my family calling me “Teacher” and “Maestra” as a kid, teen and well now. My uncles and aunt in Mexico are former educators and every time I was in Mexico I was taken to their schools and was placed in front of a classroom to teach.
My favorite thing to do when I was in my 20s was to take aside the “trouble makers” from my aunt’s class and to talk to them about life and decision making. It was amazing how God would just speak through me into their 6-9 year old 1st grade lives (yes there were 9 year old 1st graders).
According to the Myers/Briggs personality test I am ISFJ
Quiet, friendly, responsible, and conscientious. Committed and steady in meeting their obligations. Thorough, painstaking, and accurate. Loyal, considerate, notice and remember specifics about people who are important to them, concerned with how others feel. Strive to create an orderly and harmonious environment at work and at home.
FOR THE RECORD I AM ONLY QUIET AT CERTAIN TIMES/NORMALLY I AM TALKING OFF PEOPLE’S EARS!!!!! lol (I refer to myself as a chameleon, I blend in and am who I need to be at that moment whether it be the active listener so I’m quiet, or the adviser giving word.)
That’s a snippet of who I am today. I try my best to be an open book and to be as transparent on my walk as I possibly can.
