While being in Kampot I have built a relationship with a super cool dude who’s name is sopawn. He attends church every Sunday and a lot of the time he helps lead worship. Sopawn is blind. He is 18 years old and was born blind. The joy that radiates off of this guy is unbelievable every interaction with him is all smiles and laughs. It is his dream to be a professional singer one day and wants singing to be his full time job. Let me tell you he is super talented even though I have no idea what he’s saying because he sings in kamher and knows very little English but his confidence says it all. One day after church I asked him if I could take pictures of him because we want his pictures to hang on the walls in the church.  he got so excited and as I took pictures he was jumping up and down lifting his hands up praising the lord screaming hallelujah at the top of his lungs. It almost brought me to tears watching sopawn be so content and thankful for what the lord has blessed him with. Even though he can’t even see he is praising the name of Jesus finding joy in all things. He’s seriously so cool! The other night at a Christmas party that our ministry put together,  he was so contented just sitting right in front of the stage just listening to the commotion around him smiling so big, and when it came to his time to sing on stage he got up there and sang his heart out as all the children danced wildly around him.

My mind was blown as I was looking at something so beautiful and pure. Thinking how he had no idea how beautiful the moment looked that he was part of. He probably had no idea that the children had gathered on stage around him to dance to his singing and yet he was still so incredibly happy.

There is so much to learn from him…how to always find joy in the lord. To praise the name of Jesus no matter the circumstances.  to find something to be thankful for each day.

And to dream bigggg!! Sopawn is living with his family with very little support from them and yet he still comes to church each Sunday, leads worship and wants music to be part of his future!

I have been so blessed that I’ve gotten the chance to know sopawn and be inspired by him. I’ll miss him a lot now that I’m leaving Cambodia but I know the lord has big plans for his life and the lord is blessing him in this season.

Here are some pictures of sopawn jumping for joy because our god is so amazing and loves us so much!! Thanks Jesus that you created sopawn!
