For over the past three years I’ve been a speech pathologist at Barrow Neurological Rehabilitation Center in downtown Phoenix, Arizona, providing therapy to patients with brain and spinal cord injuries. I love supporting, encouraging, and educating my patients and their families. So while this is a tremendously rewarding career, God has put it on my heart to step out in faith, leave the stability and familiarity of this position and my home, and pursue mission work around the world over the next year.

Adventures in Mission holds a World Race, which is an eleven month Christian mission trip to eleven countries, a few include Egypt, Israel, Kazakhstan, and China.  Doing mission work has been on my heart for almost a decade, but it wasn’t until now that I felt God moving me to take specific action.  It has been a little scary, and definitely unexpected, but I can see how God has put the pieces in place to get me ready.  He has taught me to depend on Him when life feels unstable.  He has been my rock, and provided incredible encouragement from my family and community.  And He has removed significant roadblocks, which could have kept me from going.

One of the unique things about the World Race is that in addition to being a mission trip, it is also an intensive discipleship program designed to launch my generation into our specific kingdom calling. We will partner with churches, work in orphanages, minister to women and children trapped in prostitution as a result of human trafficking, and bring the restorative hope of the Father’s love to many tribes and nations.

As you can imagine, there will definitely be many challenges in doing this kind of intensive mission work.  And as I am getting ready to depart, one of my current greatest challenges is financial support. World Race participants fundraise like most other missionaries. In order to leave fully funded on August 3rd, 2017, I need to raise $18,617, which will cover my field expenses for the eleven months of the trip. As I take this large step of faith in trusting the Lord, would you prayerfully consider financially supporting me?

I really appreciate any and all of your support, through prayer or prayer and giving, and will call you in a few days to answer any questions you might have. Thank you for checking out my blog. Stay tuned for more about my journey.

Yours in Christ,

Catherine Read
