Wow, our 20 days in Myanmar flew by! It was a country I’d never even heard of before the Race, so coming into the month I had absolutely no concept of what living there would actually look like for us. But I am so thankful for the unexpected blessing that Myanmar was!

Here’s a few things that made my time in Myanmar so refreshing and life-giving:

1. Getting involved with Every Nation Church Yangon. These people are seriously so kind and welcoming, and they have such a huge heart for reaching business professionals and university students in their community. I loved attending their services, small groups, and volunteering at their English corner! They made us feel like family by the time we left (special shoutout to Sandi and Doug for inviting us into their home and making us burgers AND tacos).

2. The week and a half in our Airbnb. After having the six of us split up in three separate rooms and discovering bedbugs at the hostel we were staying at, it was so relaxing to finally have a space to call our own. I was thankful to be able to cook my own meals and to have a 2 in 1 washer/dryer to do laundry. 🙂

3. Taking a walking tour through the city of Yangon. I truly enjoyed learning about the history of Myanmar more-so than actually seeing the different buildings we passed. Now I know that they gained their independence from the British in 1948 with help from Japan, they switched from driving on the left side to the right (which is why all their cars still have the steering wheel on the right side), and so much more I never would’ve known otherwise.

4. Attending a prayer night and Burmese service at Vineyard Church. It was beautiful to be a part of lifting up the people of Myanmar with fellow believers and see how God is already reaching so many of the local communities and different ethnic groups. It’s always so cool to witness people around the world worshiping in their native language in a way that is completely unique to them.

5. A spontaneous beach weekend. I’m not normally one who enjoys the beach or likes to make decisions quickly, but in this case I am so thankful I didn’t listen to my first instincts. This was exactly the break from the city I needed, and it was so good to catch up with friends on other teams and hear how God has been working in their lives.

There’s so much more I could say, but I’ll keep it short and sweet (just like our month was). This month was a lot about being filled up so we could pour back out. It was more than I ever thought it would be, especially after the few months prior being more challenging. Myanmar was a breath of fresh air. I am thankful that any expectations I had were blown out of the water. God always shows up and knows exactly what we need in each season.
