I am in India!! It is Friday, and I have been in India for almost a week. At the beginning of each country, I like to give y’all an introduction of ministry and our day-to-day life. For the protection of my squad and our ministry host, I will not be sharing specific names or locations.
The first thing that comes to mind while I am sitting down to write this post is that this is not what I expected India to be like!! I chose my route because it was the only one with India, and this country sparked an interest in my mind when I watched a BBC documentary on overpopulation in school, and India was one of the countries that was featured in the movie. Even though we often do not have much information about what is coming up while on the Race, we still have expectations, and for India some of us expected spicy food, Hindu and Buddhist people, very hot weather, and busy city life. We are experiencing quite the opposite- we are in a small village in Northeast India that is 100% evangelized, and it is amazing here! Our squad is staying in the dorm building of a seminary, and we are located in what almost feels like an American neighborhood. There are 4-5 people to a room, so it feels much more “normal” than the huge bunk rooms in Swaziland.
As for ministry, we will be doing different things over the course of our 2 months in India. So far, we have done manual labor twice, and spent 2 days setting up for a children’s day camp that is expecting thousands of kids. Once a week, my team will be helping cook meals for the squad, and the other days we will be doing ministry off site. Next week, I know that we will be helping at the children’s camp for a couple days.
So far, I am really enjoying my time in India, and am very excited for the next 2 months!! We are in a very unique location, but even though the majority of the people are still Christian, it does not stop us from still being able to make a difference in their community. Please comment if you have any questions about what it is like here.
