One of the things I keep on hearing about the World Race,
especially now that I’m in the field, is to always expect things to change.
I’d like to think that I’m generally prepared for that to
happen.
I’ve learned a lot in the last three months about that very
thing. I never know exactly what one hour to the next is going to look like.
Not that this World Race thing is horrible, but change is
the nature of the beast in this instance.

Today has been one of those days of HUGE change, following
an incredibly difficult night (read my squadmate Danny’s blog about what
happened last night here).
It was news we’ve been waiting to hear for most of the next
month, and it’s wonderful news and sad all at the same time.
New squad leaders were appointed, as were multiple new team
leaders, and other changes to the team.

To answer the question about the team…
David, Glenalyn, Leyna, Megan, and I are still all together.
Lauren’s joined the all-women’s team on the squad. Noe is now one of our three
new squad leaders (the other two being Mike and Liz, and Megan will take up the
reins of leadership for our new team.
Joining the five of us are Jonathan and Nicole, and I’m really excited
for that.
I got to know Jonathan (and his sense of humor) while we
were working together in the dining hall at El Rancho, and I can’t wait to get
to know him better these next eight months.
I haven’t gotten to know Nicole very well yet, but in this
month with the entire squad together I have seen her strength and her passion and
her heart, and I know that she is
just going to be a huge blessing in my life, in my teammmates’ lives, and in
the lives of everyone we meet the rest of the year.

At the risk of using the word excited too much in this blog,
I really am excited for these changes.
I know (and have known for quite a while in my heart) that
Noe would be stepping up into squad leadership. He’s a humble and gentle but
strong and mighty man whose heart’s desire is God above all else. God’s blessed
him greatly with wisdom, compassion, and a heart to see the people around him
walk in the same truth and freedom he knows and walks in.
I’ve also had the privilege these last three months to watch
Megan grow into the gift of leadership God’s given her. I believe beyond a
shadow of a doubt He’s given her the ability to lead our team. She’s a strong
fighter, incredibly wise, and her heart truly belongs to the Lord first and
foremost. In a couple of words – she’s legit.

My heart is sad because I know I won’t be seeing Noe or
Lauren on a day-to-day basis anymore, and I have come to treasure their friendship,
but I know that at this moment, they’re exactly where they need to be and doing
exactly what they’ve been called to do.
Even if that means I don’t get to see them all the time
anymore.

In that aspect, you could say the World Race is like life in
general in that respect.
Things change.
But God is good, all the time.
Praise God.
P.S. – Besides team
and squad changes, there’s also been another route change. Instead of going to
Thailand next month, we’re headed off to Cambodia for the month of April, then
Thailand for the month of May. Talk about things never staying the same!
