What is NaNoWriMo?
NaNoWriMo is shorthand for National Novel Writing Month. Every November, an organization known as The Office of Letters and Light puts on this event where thousands all over the world try their hand at writing a 50,000 word (approx. 80 page) novel in 30 days. About 1/5 of the participants actually cross the finish line each year.
Why are you doing NaNoWriMo this year? Isn’t getting ready for The World Race enough?
Well… maybe I’m just a glutton for punishment. But – in all seriousness – I love stories. I’ve loved them since I was a little girl. Something deep inside of me longs to share stories with the world. NaNoWriMo is a month where I get to quickly flesh out one of the many stories stirring inside of me and find out where it fits in with everyone else’s stories.
What is the fundraiser part?
The fundraiser part is where you (the reader of this fabulous blog) sponsor me through NaNoWriMo. You can do either by word count or a specific period of time. The going rates (which are open to negotiation):
Word Count Time
$20/500 words $20/hour
$50/1000 words $100/day
$100/2500 words $500/week
How will it work?
Send me an email through the “Contact Me” link on the left-hand side of the page and let me know how much you plan to sponsor me for. Make you put your email address in your contact info so I can email you closer to the deadline for payment and remind you if you haven’t paid already.
Deadline for payment: December 7th, 2009
How do I pay?
Click on the link on the left hand side of the screen that says “Support Me” This will take you directly to a page where you can make an online donation (via bank draft or credit card).
If online donations aren’t your thing, then when you email me to let me know you plan to sponsor me, include your mailing address so I can send you an SASE (Self Addressed Stamped Envelope) and a card that contains all the information you need to mail in your support. AIM accounting will love you for forever because said card with have an appeal ID that tells them exactly where to apply the money!
And… to sweeten the pot, I suppose – the first fifteen or so people who sponsor me have a free Cat’s World Race T-Shirt coming their way. Can’t get any better than that, can it?
How is your support raising thusfar, anyway?
If you want to the most update information as far as what is in my account, you can always check the “Support Me” link on the left hand side of your screen. I update it whenever I check my support so you can see where I’m at. Right now, it’s looking pretty low ($1,622 out of the $8,600 I need to have by the middle of December in order to launch at the first of January). With monthly giving, I will for sure have $1,822 raised and in the account, which means I am still $6,778 short for Launch, and $11,978 short for the entire trip. If there is any way you can help, then please invest in me. God will make sure the money won’t be wasted.
Other things…
I wonder if some people have the idea that someone else is going to come along and help me go… maybe a rich young doctor making eyes at me and signing away loads of money so I can do what God’s called me to. The truth is that I’ve been blessed the most by those who have been able to give the least in actual amounts. One thing that I’ve really found to be true in this situation is that you (all of you reading this) cannot make the assumption that someone has already taken care of helping me with this. The chances are much better that everyone assumed someone else was assisting the girl in need and thought that God will magically do his thing and provide the funds out of nowhere.
God is not going to fail… but that doesn’t mean everyone in the world needs to step back and wait for it to happen. He will prevail, and I trust that He will make sure I get out on the Race. I just ask that you consider whether or not you are part of God’s provision in my life.
