A few rules for keeping your heart intact on The World Race:
  1. Never ever ask God to break your heart
for what breaks His, or to give you His eyes for even a second. Once you
do, there is no turning back.
  2. When
God tells you to do something, turn and run in the opposite direction, no
    questions asked.
  3. Go
home before you even get to training camp, because there is no way your heart won’t be broken
    on The World Race.
As a deep lover of most things academic, it’s been easy to
look at the world and see statistics, not faces. That’s part of the reason why
I came on the Race – I wanted there to be stories of real people to replace the
book knowledge I’ve collected all these years. When issues are discussed, I
want to be able to speak from my heart knowledge, not merely from the stats
rolling around in my head.

Well, the stats started to collide with people this month.
How can anyone be unaffected by Sara’s story? And how could I sit still and not
put every bit of love and joy I have inside of me into showing 30+ kids how
much they really are loved in spite of all the lies they were told before they
found their way into the children’s home?

Trying to keep your heart intact is impossible. Holding
yourself together long enough to not let these kids see how much their stories
are affecting you… it’s difficult. But when you’re in the business of bringing
kingdom wherever you go, there really are only two things you need to know.
  1. Jesus
    loves them, this you know…
  2. When
your heart is hurting for these people, know that it’s only a tiny
fraction of the hurt God our Father feels. If He’s capable of showing love
through all His pain and He’s in you… you’re capable, too.
