Sophi is the leader of the student group I met Eszti at (read more about Eszti here).
On the way across the bridge from Pest to Buda, Sophi mentioned she had read my recent blog about depression in Hungary.
Not all Hungarians are depressed, she pointed out. There is hope.
Because the Christian students I met in Budapest are full of joy.
Their smiles light up rooms, and their laughter drives the silence of hopelessness far, far away.
If you have been praying for a revival and awakening in Hungary, then guess what-
The thing I have been thinking about since that conversation, however, is this:Even if revival was not stirring right now, there would still be hope.
Why? Because God exists.
As surely as He exists in Waikanae, or Manila, or Narosura, or Buginyanya, or Dublin, He exists in Budapest.
And His existence changes everything, because He is capable of changing everything.
Victory is already HIS.
It is easy to forget that truth, though, when all you see and feel and hear is gloom and doom…
When all you know is what you’ve been told,
And what you have been told is that there is no way you will ever amount to much.
That you will ALWAYS be defeated.
Also, it is easy to be skeptical about His existence when what you want is rarely what you get,
When the things you never wanted to see happen do happen.
I think the truth is that we believe so many lies because believing lies takes less effort than truth.
Believing truth requires a leap of faith.
Taking a leap of faith requires a lot more work – which connects truth and hope together.
They both require faith.
Hope is rising in Hungary.
I have the same dream for the rest of the world.
