October is our ATL (Ask The Lord) month, meaning, and team Unshakeable is settling in comfortably (maybe a little too much so) in the beautiful, historical city of Budapest, Hungary!
So, for that matter, are Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, and their set of darlings – which is really the only reason why I mention it (the fact that they’re in the same city).
Maybe we’ll run into them this month…

Did I mention Budapest is beautiful, by the way?

(see what I mean?)

Yesterday, we took a walking tour (for free!) of the city, and got to see and hear about some incredible things.
For example:

Did you know there was a massacre of the Jews in Budapest in 1944?
There is a spot along the Danube commemorating the lives of those who were shot, then thrown into the river.
Bronze shoes mark the spot because the officers in charge made the Jews remove their shoes (shoes were very valuable by that point).

OR

Did you know that Budapest is two cities united – Buda & Pest?
I’m serious – Budapest is cut in half by the Danube, and originally there were two cities on either side that came together in the 19th century under the Hapsburgs?
Buda is Hungarian for rich, and the vast majority of the wealthy in Budapest live on the Buda side.
Pest is home to the Jewish Quarter, a lot of the tourist spots, and many university students.

Speaking of which – that is part of our ministry this month!
Amongst other things, we will be hanging out with university students, ministering to the homeless, doing street art, getting International Night of Prayer organized (read this blog for more information about that), and spending time with tourists by meeting them where they congregate.
I am especially excited about our ministry opportunities with university students this month, because many of them are through MEKDSz (the Hungarian Fellowship of Evangelical Students, and sibling to InterVarsity Christian Fellowship at home in America).

As some of you may or may not know, I was involved with InterVarsity as an undergrad at Northern Arizona University.

Being able to see what is happening internationally is a dream come true.
I didn’t think it would happen at all on The World Race… and yet it is.
Needless to say, I cannot wait to see what will come out of this month because it is going to be a-mazing.

(P.S. – an ATL month is one where we are given no contact by AIM, and have to pray and search out our own ministry opportunities. Stay tuned for the story of how God has provided for us so far!)
