259 days.
September 19, 2010 marked 259 days on The World Race.
It also marked 259 days since I first heard the big news – my oldest sister, Christina, was going to have a baby.
Sometimes, it boggles my mind to think that as I was waiting around the airport in Phoenix for my flight to Los Angeles, Christina was taking the home pregnancy test that would come up positive and change everything I thought knew.

Well, maybe the phrase “change everything I thought I knew” is an exaggeration, but that news fundamentally changed how I have interacted with and ministered to all of the children I’ve met this year.
From Alyse, Gina, Ellie, Jordan, and Grace in New Zealand to the school children I walked down the road holding hands with in Uganda, my goal has been simple.

My sister’s baby would come into the world with a lot of people already in love with it.
Most of the children I would be coming into contact with around the world would be starving for that kind of love.

My goal, then?
To love these children with not only the love of Christ, but like they were a part of my own family.
I would have a lifetime to love on my new niece or nephew.
All I had with the children surrounding me was that very moment.

So, September 19, 2010 marks more than just 259 days.
It also marks the beginning of the one of most epic adventures I can think of (outside of Jesus dying on the cross).
New life.

Meet Christina & Emil
(
my youngest nephew, and the reason for setting my goal)

Emil, welcome to our world.
I hope you understand someday the impact your life has had on this planet, and all before you were born.
Even more, I hope you realize how much I love you… and how much more God loves you than I or anyone else ever will.
