While you're probably thinking oxygen, carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, calcium, and phosphorus.
I'm thinking more along the lines of — ARE YOU A GRASSHOPPER OR ARE YOU A GIANT?
Check this little nugget out…
Numbers 13:31-33 (Amplified)
31 But his fellow scouts said, We are not able to go up against the people [of Canaan], for they are stronger than we are.
32 So they brought the Israelites an evil report of the land which they had scouted out, saying, The land through which we went to spy it out is a land that devours its inhabitants. And all the people that we saw in it are men of great stature.
33 There we saw the Nephilim [or giants], the sons of Anak, who come from the giants; and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.
So, rewind. Let me sum this up a bit…
God had brought his children out of Egypt (huge deal). He had guided and protected them through the desert (tough times) and now on the border of the Promise Land (yippee skippee), God came to Moses with the promise of His continued guidance. In preparation for the journey into Canaan (promise land), Moses sent out spies, representatives from every tribe to look over the land. Just like God promised, Canaan was a beautiful land filled with lush fruit and fertile valleys (blessings out the wazoo). But Canaan was also a land filled with big, strong warriors (uh-oh). The children of Israel feared the giants because when they looked at themselves (grasshoppers), they felt small in front of their BIG problems (giants).
We all want the victory, right?
You know… The land of milk and honey. The inheritance. The promise land. The top of the mountain. The big "hoo-rah" whatever that may be to each of us.
Well, what sort of mentality does it take to actually obtain it?
It ain't no grasshopper mentality, I can tell you that!
This past week, shoot this past month, ok, maybe my whole life has been about facing fears. Overcoming the grasshopper mentality and tapping into my inner giant. Big Daddy has been holding my hand the entire way — Gently whispering, hey kid, I love you. Don't worry, I got your back.
Some spinach I've been chewing on this week…
