Well, I have a blog that I’ve tried to post three times since I wrote it but the internet stopped working before we came to the village, then my computer wouldn’t connect at the free WiFi we found last weekend, and now the computers at the internet cafe will not read our flash drives and I don’t have enough time to retype it in my ten minutes of internet.

Basically, what I’m saying is that I’m not slacking on blog writing and updating, I just don’t have fully-functioning internet in the bush!

So, here’s a short update that I also posted on Facebook:

It rains- a lot.

The roads are always muddy and flooded.

We’re living in tents to avoid bugs, rats and lizards inside a concrete structure.

It averages about 100 degrees daily and I sweat a ton! (Even when it rains!)

We’re eating local dishes prepared for us by our contact’s extended family, who all live under one structure on the corner across from us.

We’re an hour away from the city on a pot-hole-ridden dirt road.

Everyone says “Hello!” as we walk by.

We spend the mornings reading and relaxing or doing physical labor and the afternoons teaching our own English class. I have two class; a class of about 15 who are 9-year-olds and a class of about 10 who are 15-year-olds. Usually dogs and chickens disrupt my class and I have to wrangle the students back in.

We have a nightly bible study with all the neighborhood kids and some adults and they LOVE to sing English worship songs. We are currently teaching them an NSquad favorite: Relentless by 6:22 and Matthew Lilly.

We go to bed around 8 p.m. after our bible study. (Yes, we are like old people now!)

We shower via rain water, so on days like today when it doesn’t rain, we are threatened with no showers- even after an hour of physical labor in the boiling 9 a.m. sun.

Our “bathroom” is at the family structure across the washed-away road and is just a squatty-potty behind a wooden door that doesn’t close all the way.

We’re sick. We’re dirty. We’re exhausted. We’re sweaty.

It’s definitely not a “comfortable” month.

And I love it!
