On January 8 our squad left Washington D.C. for Dondo, Mozambique. It took us several days and ways to get there including two plane rides and two LONG bus rides. Thankfully we arrive safely and in one piece. In Mozambique there were some big adjustments to be made. I knew God had some changes for my life but so soon? Of course!! Why would He wait?
The first one was with food. In the United States I would never eat things like cabbage, peanut butter, beans, and I am sure there are more. It's not that I am super picky I just know what I don't like. You can even ask my aunt Suzy who made me eat potato salad once and to this day I love it. I have enjoyed eating rice and cabbage, PB&J's, rice and beans, and last night I even got brave and tried coleslaw. Food is something the Lord is definitely working on.
Showers. You wouldn't think that was something the Lord could help you with. I am sure my mother is pleased to know it is. In Mozambique you have a trash can of water outside your door, you take a milk pale of water into the shower and that's your water for the shower. So 35min hot water showers have now turned into 10 min cooler bucket showers. I am actually thankful for the cold water because in Mozambique it's hot.
Temperature. It's hot in Mozambique like really hot. Sometimes when you wake up your already sweating because at 7 am it's like a million degrees outside. It only gets hotter. The evenings were cooler. It was an adjustment but it was worth it.
Mozambique was a beautiful country and an eye opening experience. I loved the people there, the market, and the people at Iris Ministries who did nothing but bless us.
