11/16/10
We have Mondays
and Tuesdays off from ministry and this week we decided to live on the edge a
little bit. Allan and I were talking to Diego last week about some fun things
to do on our days off and he brought up the idea of going to this waterfall to
do some hiking. He also mentioned that there is a cave under the waterfall
where we could potentially sleep for the night. He said he had never done it
before and wasn’t sure if it was possible or if we would be allowed to, but we
could try it. Also, it’s about 5 hours away by public transportation and we
would figure it out as we went along. Awesome. I’m in!!
[dulce de leche crepes]
A few of my
favorite things from our days off:
-Dulce de leche
crepes…MMM!!
-running out of
gas while hitch-hiking in the back of a pick-up truck [2 days in a row!]
-cutting off
the engine to save gas while coasting down hills [and still passing other cars]
-trying to
learn how to whistle by pulling out the bottom lip-Central American style
-walking by
faith-God always provides
-transportation
when we didn’t know how we were going to get from one place to the next
-a pot to
cook macaroni & cheese
-a place
to stay
-cliff jumping
next to a waterfall
-having deep
conversations about Jesus for hours with a guy while he was drinking and
smoking pot
-sleeping in a
cave under a waterfall
-Selva Negra-a
coffee plantation that some of us (Christy, Alex, and I) took big time
advantage of!! [we went through 3 pots of coffee during lunch]
-hiking through
the rainforest looking for monkeys
-riding on the
flat bed of an 18-wheeler semi truck for over 2 hours looking up at the stars

[camping in a cave]
Tim brought up
the fact that even on our days off from ministry God still uses us to minister
to people. Holland, the guy that we talked to in the cave, has been through a
lot in his life-shot 3 times, drugs/alcohol, prison, etc. He has been in
multiple deadly car accidents and a plane crash, and yet he’s still alive to
tell us about them. He has a pretty crazy story and I know God isn’t finished
with him yet. He talked about how God could maybe use him more because of the
things he has experienced. So true. He has read the entire Bible at least once
and he definitely knows his stuff! He had plenty of stories and examples to
back up what he was saying. He also told us his younger brother had spent a
couple years in prison and that’s where he got saved. Now he has a prison
ministry of his own. Perhaps that was the reason God took us there…to plant a
seed. Let’s just hope and pray that he decides to turn his life around and
start living for the Lord.
Overall, it was
a great “weekend” and we made tons of fun memories as a team!!
