What is my purpose?
It is the question that drives us all crazy.
It is the question that countless books are written in an attempt to answer.
It is the question that in prayer we phrase something like, "God what is your will for my life?"
The answer…
The answer that we determine to be suitable to this question is CRUCIAL.
The answer that we cling to influences every decision that we make.
The answer that we believe to be truth impacts how we invest our time and shapes the impact that our lives make.
"In these bodies we will live, in these bodies we will die. Where you invest your love, you invest your life." – Mumford and Sons
As the popular song "Awake My Soul" brings to light, it is incredibly true that where we invest our love and our desires…that is inevitably where we invest our lives.
If my desire and accepted purpose in life is to be a wife and a mother, than that purpose will be reflected in all of my decisions.
-I will make sure that I am desirable to the opposite sex at all times to catch myself a man (of course I will do most of my luring at church to find a nice Christian fellow).
-I will make sure that I am equipped with all of the essential wife skills (cooking, cleaning, sewing, etc…).
-I will make sure that I am prepared with the most original and meaningful baby names.
-I will invest my identity and my life in being who I think I need to be for the benefit of others.
But is this the purpose that God has given to me?
" The entire human race was created to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever. Sin has diverted the human race onto another course, but it has not altered God's purpose to the slightest degree. And when we are born again we are brought into the realization of God's great purpose for the human race, namely, that He created us for Himself….We must continually keep our soul open to the fact of God's creative purpose, and never confuse or cloud it with our own intentions. If we do, God will have to force our intentions aside no matter how much it may hurt." – Oswald Chambers
My one and ONLY purpose is to glorify God. That is the sole reason that He created me. That's it.
"If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple." – Luke 14:26
Any relationship or desire that I am willing to put before my God given purpose to glorify the Lord… is a complete detriment to who I was created to be.
So how do I live out my purpose?
How then do I glorify the Lord?

"Ascribe to the LORD, O families of nations, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength, ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name. Bring an offering and come before him; worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness." 1 Chronicles 16:28-29

Ascribe is defined as giving credit to a source or author.

So first…
God is the author of our lives. We must give Him the credit for everything.
We must give the Lord the glory that he deserves. He alone is worthy.

And second…
We must bring the King of Kings an offering.
The offering that He requires is our life.
Our whole life. Our preconceived intentions, desires, expectations. Every part of us.

Jesus knows my heart. He knows that I would love to be a wife and a mom someday. But ultimately, He is not just concerned with my vision for my life.
He is concerned with me living a life that is holy. A life that is never stagnant. A life that consists of me and Him in an intimate and personal relationship. A life dedicated to being His bride. A life that glorifies Him in EVERYTHING that I do and with EVERYTHING that I am.
Right now I am on the World Race. I am called to bring glory to the name of Jesus Christ all over the world. To bring His hope and His love to the nations.

If on my life journey with the Lord I am blessed by a husband and children, it will be His desire to be glorified in those relationships. Those are blessings that should make the name of Jesus famous.

So I am laying down my selfish desires.
I am laying down my self-centered expectations.

I am offering my life as a sacrifice to the living God. I am pursuing my purpose.
His purpose.

The purpose.

My purpose.
