Now this is a story all about how Matty C in my life has impacted me
And I’d like to take a minute just to sit right here, tell ya all about how it was Jesus in there.
In York, Pennsylvania born and raised, straight thuggin’ is how he spent most of his days,
Tasering, tased, ya know those psych ward days.
When a couple of guys who were up to some good, started preaching Jesus in da neighborhood,
Next thing ya know Matty’s praying on his knees, has a wife, two kids and is doing the same thing!
I started leading younglife, 19 years old, I was scared, who am i? no one knows.
Matty Carl always cared in such a way.
God – people—ministry—pray pray pray.
Over the last 3 years I learned a whole lot, most of it from all this guy’s got.
Knoweldge? Ya. Techy? Ya. Great leader? Ya.
It’s all true. But the one things I could tell you ‘til my face is blue,
Is that this guy loves Jesus and therefore people with everything he’s got!
And that comes before it all.
We do team time each night. Everyone on our team has a night to do whatever they want with. Anything they choose.
Last week Lindsay asked us some questions. One of the questions was who do you look up to? And what are those characteristics?
Basically, it doesn’t have to be just one person, it can be multiple people, but what characteristics do you wanna take from people? What things do you wanna build up off of?
I instantly thought of Matt.
I’ve been leading young life with Matt in Southern York County in Pa for the last 2 and a half years.
He goes by Matty Carl to me.
For that question I wrote how Matty has always cared for me first as a person, he never looked at me as a young life leader.
He cared about me above the ministry of young life.
He is such a great friend. A great dad. A great husband.
I’ve seen how he randomly buys his amazing wife, Michelle, flowers and chocolate.
He’s shown me a new standard for things.
He helps me with everything.
Technology stuff. Even here while i’m in Montenegro he helps me while i don’t know how to do stuff.
He is always, ALWAYS, willing to serve.
I want to take these things from Matt, and be more like him in so many of these ways.
But a cool things that Lindsay pointed out is that in so many ways we are already like that.
I don’t know if it’s having spent so much time with Matty Carl or what, but I’m thankful to be more like a guy like him. That’s something i can be ok with.
Matty,
I know we don’t do sentimental,
But writing down my answer to that question,
I realized how much I appreciate you and your friendship.
I appreciate you taking time to speak truth into my life and building me up.
Thank you for caring more about me than the ministry, that means SO much more than I think you realize, cause I have seen that be a downfall.
Thanks for loving Jesus so well that is just so naturally an overflow in your life to love others.
Thank you for inviting me into your life.
Thanks for being sarcastic with me.
& Thanks for never hardly ever being serious with me, until it’s necessary.
Just thanks. Lots of thanks. That could go on for a while.
I am so thankful to have lead with you.
Keep being Matty Carl.
Seriously, don’t change a thing.

Much love,
