Chello and welcome back! On this episode of cass’ blog, we’re going to see the tiny space in which I get to call my own. aka my bunk.

It’s not the biggest space or the coziest mattress but I must say, I love this little corner. I feel safe and rested in this space. Free to laugh at any movie I’m watching and free to put some earbuds in and act like I live alone (alone time is probably the rarest thing on the race so far). This very spot has got me through weeks of a concussed head. It gives me a place to cry with my bffs, laugh with my sisters during hours we should all be sleeping, spend time with the Lord, recoup and so much more. It’s honestly the one thing I can call “mine” that no one else uses… well except the ants that sleep with me. (don’t be fooled, I LOVE sharing everything from clothes to nail polish to books out here on the race!! but having my own bed is nice) ps. The ant thing isn’t a joke. They’re everywhere.

As you can see, my wall is decorated with pictures of my family and besties from back home, encouraging letters from friends here, and an envelope that I put all the ‘words’ my brothers and sisters have given me since we’ve gotten to Costa. You’ll notice the string hung across the top of my bed… that’s a clothesline that I honestly only hung up so I could hang my scrunchies somewhere. yep, just for my scrunchies. I mean at least I’ve made use of that handy line my momma got me. I use the end of my bed for my raincoat and cozy hoodie. Oh…and when I borrow someone’s clothes I always put it there after in case they come looking for it. My clothes are so cleanly placed on the floor beneath me. They sit on top of my packing cubes so you can slide them out like a drawer. Who needs a closet?! Next to my clothes stores my pastels, extra journals, homework, headphones, and Berns guitar. Basically, you’ll find everything I own under my bed!

When I was concussed I started hanging up a fun little curtain to block out the light. (as pictured below) See mom, I knew my avocado towel would be useful for something. You’ll also find the avocado up if I want to be alone, am napping while my teammates have the light on or just because I think it looks fun. (I love my avocados!!)

I know what you’re thinking now… who is her bunk mate?!?! Well let me introduce you to the one and only… drum roll please- -Bernadette Beacham!! My incredible team leader that I get the honor of not only calling my sister but my bunk mate. Bern is a fun one because she recently got us cute little Christmas lights for our wall (ok they’re her lights but lucky me I get to enjoy them). She’s the kindest bunk buddy because she makes huge efforts to not wake me up if she goes to sleep after me or wakes up before me. She also started letting me use her peppermint oil when I was concussed and now just leaves it out on the ladder for me to use whenever I’d like. Her wall is decorated so fun and spunky. When she laughs at night the bed shakes. When she moves it creeks. I love it all. She sits on my bed when she puts her shoes on and sometimes we discuss the ants we sleep with. Maybe we should name them?? Hmm. Anyway, not the point. As you can see, I stole my envelope idea from her cute decor. And to answer the questions you must be asking yourself, yes she wears the hat it’s not just decoration. Thanks for tuning in on this fun episode and welcome to my bunk!

love always, Cass
