My team is almost through our first week in Panama and I am blown away. I hardly even know where to begin to tell you guys all about it. So, here’s an easily digestible list of ALL the things:
-
Our hosts, Enoc and Yannath, are the absolute best. The moment we arrived they told us “It’s your house!”, and they meant it. We have been treated exactly like family and I feel so incredibly loved by them. I’m already sad thinking about leaving in three short weeks
-
Panama is actually spelled Panamá. That accent means something- there is a zest of life here and a joy I wasn’t expecting. Panama was foreign. Panamá is a home.
-
Crunchy peanut butter is still the best. And our hosts bought a humongous jar for us! #blessed
-
The coffee farm is not just a coffee farm! For the first few days we worked with peppers. We picked and fertilized them. What’s super cool is that those peppers were ones a different WR squad planted in March. Cool reminder from God that the church is meant to live in community and lift each other up!
-
Roasting coffee is as fun as it sounds! Especially when your host brings ALL the snacks with him!
-
Every day we have the ability to sow into the kingdom – whether that’s through engaging in conversation with someone we don’t know or literally sowing seeds to grow someone’s livelihood. The good work God has is boundless and shouldn’t be confined to what I imagine to be ministry.
-
Organic fertilizer is the bougie name for dry chicken poop.
-
I love my teammates so much. They are so encouraging and have really expanded my view of community. Having the freedom to bring something up that would otherwise be scary (because it is noticing a flaw or could cause a disagreement or could be misunderstood) and knowing that the people around me will respond with love and sincerity is a beautiful thing.
There you go! Short and sweet, but I hope it gives a small picture of what is happening in my life! We are getting our hands dirty on the farm and my back is honestly aching, but it is so worthwhile and I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else this month.
Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen. Ephesians 3:20-21 ESV
