I keep asking myself this question in light of Haggai 1:7- “Give careful thought to your ways.”
Some of you may be asking this as well, wondering if you would like to contribute to my fundraising, or to try to make sense of my decisions. Thats okay, I encourage asking good questions- so, I’ll tell you why!
First- Here is what I wont do: try to convince you that I’m going to be a great missionary. I’m so OVER people pleasing!- a struggle of mine to the core. I’m done with feeding my fear of man, and am pursuing healing from this disease of the mind.
I will, instead, tell you how great God is and why He cares about missions! I believe Jesus has me on this journey to bring me into His presence more intimately, and an immediate effect of that is to bring others into His presence by meeting the vessel that carries it. Jesus is in the business of providing freedom- His wonderful grace is just a means of getting us into His presence!
- Jesus cares about our bellies. When He saw a large crowd had followed Him because they saw the miraculous healings He had performed, He fed them. John 6.
- Jesus cares about physical healing. He healed many people from demon possession, paralyzation, blindness, deafness, death, various physical disabilities and a and variety of diseases- check out the 4 gospels for the many accounts.
- Jesus cares about proclaiming Truth and rebuking lies. He spoke parables to convict, to bring hope, to shed light on sins, and to shed light on the truth that The Father is good! He wasn’t shy to ask good questions, or to speak about hard concepts.
- Jesus cares about the lost. Luke 15 gives accounts of His parables about the prodigal son, the lost coin, and the lost sheep- The point of these parables is to get here: “…Just so, I tell you, there is joy in heaven over one sinner who repents…It was fitting to celebrate and be glad, for this your brother was dead, and is alive; he was lost, and is found.”
It would be hard to say Jesus didn’t care about missions, even without using Mark 16:15 (The Great Commission).
So, I hope this is sufficient for you- Jesus cares about me, I care about Jesus, Jesus cares for people, I care for people.
