Hello faithful readers!
I have been in Haiti for 2 weeks now, and wanted to share with you my great joy in being here.
A little about daily living…
Our food is delicious! Rice and beans, sometimes mystery meat (maybe goat?) and lots of PB&J. Cereals (COCO CRISPIESSSS) and pancakes!! Lasanga is also on the menu occasionally. We went to the market and bought pineapple yesterday, and they always have fresh carrots, tomatoes and green bellpeppers out at lunch.
The dining area is open and breezy- a delight unless we try playing cards haha! The building we sleep in is hay/tulip yellow with lots of windows for a breeze at night. We also have electricity for about 18 hours a day, most importantly at night, so we enjoy fans overhead. It storms quite frequently at night as well and there has been no shortage of screaming during the thunder/lightning because it cracks your ear drums! We stay in bunk beds with bug nets- so basically, we all feel like princesses with our canopy.
Our daily ministry begins around 8am and we have been going to a village to pray with people, make friends and enjoy conversation, or working in a warehouse sorting education materials to be distributed to schools (very important!!), or working on construction with many an assembly line being made. We drink PLENTY of clean water.
We DO get to feel clean for a while after our shower a day, and the nice breeze at night is bliss, though not safe to hammock in ha!
Our days end around 3-4, we have dinner at 6, team meetings at 7:30, and the rest of the time is free time! I’ve been playing guitar, cards, chatting it up and doing nothing during those times. Something to take away from the Pose (Pronounced pozAy, meaning relaxed) nature of Haiti is that God has much more opportunity to speak with me because I have more time to look at Him.
Will post more about ministry, and please ask questions you have!
Thank you for reading!
Sending my love,
Cassandra
