Many years ago there was a popular prayer people would
recite from Chronicles. It was the
Prayer of Jabez. Part of that prayer
was, “Enlarge my territories.” I
remember playing a large part in this Christian fad. “Lord, enlarge my territories,” I would pray
quite selfishly. When I prayed this I
was thinking of material things that I wanted, not for the benefit of
others. Now, as I pray that prayer, I
don’t think for myself but for my daughters.

I began our bible study last week with just two girls
from the Sunday school. I started to be
okay with just the three, enjoying the time for bonding but at some point on
Sunday when I saw a Sunday school with more than 180 children, I asked the Lord
for a great number.

On Monday I was invited by Living Streams School to speak
to every class room (Class 8 and under). As I spoke, I sought to motivate each on to greatness found in a loving
relationship with their Father and His Son. When I finished speaking, the Head Teacher invited each girl to come to
the bible study. The students have break
from 3:30 to 4:10 and back to class until as late as 6pm sometimes. I didn’t expect them to sacrifice their break
for another class. But still, I sat out
12 chairs, thinking “We might have a good
number today.”

By 3:45 there were 58 girls in the bible study. I was floored. Forget the chairs, we needed a new
building. My Sunday school girls and I
were overwhelmed. See, I asked God to
expand my territories and He was now laughing at me and saying, “They’re
expanded, now what?”

Too often, we expect great things from God, yet we don’t
ready ourselves for when it comes.
