Being on the worship team, Kerry Bates and I were invited to Tereza’s home group to share our testimonies. I have seen many home fellowships around the world. It’s been amazing to see the intimacy that grows in these family-like groups. They always begin with worship. This year I’ve really learned why we begin christian functions with worship, or “devotions”. It really frames your mind and ushers in the presence of God.
Tomash led worship on his guitar. God’s presence really came into that tiny coffee room. (If you’ve never listened to Praise and Worship music, try it out- maybe Hillsong). Heartfelt prayers were offered on behalf of the city of Prague and the church. Scripture was spoken, testimonies were given. One of the group members asked a common question, “How do you know God is speaking to you? How do you know which direction to take?” This simple question led to the tears flowing on my face.
This has been a year of clearly hearing from God. This has been a year of constant directives from God. It all began with God putting a desire for Internationals on my heart. That led to my first foreign missions to China. Now I’ve been blessed to serve thirteen countries. I’ve done all of this because God spoke to me. He told me to “Go. Make disciples. See after the widows. Help the orphans. Feed the hungry.”
God speaks to people differently. Some receive visions, dreams, hear his audible voice, messages through movies, music, art, nature. The way God speaks to us is not limited to the Bible. In times that I haven’t heard God speak, it has been when I’ve not opened myself to hear him. When I don’t quiet myself before God, it’s difficult for me to recognize His voice. God sent me on this mission and used it advantageously. Not having a television or other distractions has drawn me closer to Himself. Whether I go to the left or to the right God is there telling me “Walk in this way.”
