Memories with Granny are the ones that bring smiles to my face the most. As summer break approached we looked forward to the three and a half hour travel to visit our great grandmother in Western, Kentucky.
Granny always had old friends waiting for us with burgers and hot dogs on the grill. She even made homemade ice cream for dessert. We played her favorite card games, went to see “picture shows” and ate at her favorite cat fish restaurant.
I was Granny’s prize possession. She wouldn’t let anyone pick on me or lay a hand on me. She took up for me. She protected me.
Picking up the newspaper in Cambodia, you hear many sad stories of young girls in the sex trade. These young girls don’t choose to have sex with multiple partners; the work is chosen for them. For many of them, their parents sell them in order to pay off their debt to a debtor.
Unfortunately some don’t make it into a safe home until they have already been violated over and over again.

“I have work in my home. Your girl can work for me and pay off your debt.”
So, you send your daughter to work in this man’s home. Unbeknownst to you he will dress her and make her available to many men who desire to have her.
Sex trade is everywhere. Cambodia has a high percentage of it, as does Vietnam, Laos and Thailand but it could possibly be in your back yard.
So, are you going to go out on the back porch look and see what all you can do to clean up or will you just come through the garage door, go straight to your sofa, watch television and ignore the back yard?
