GREETINGS 
Formally men greet men with a firm handshake and women greet women with handshakes.  Unformally men greet men with nod and the same for women greeting women.  Men and women greet with handshakes (formal), nods (less formal), single kiss on cheek (friends/family)

COMMUNICATION STYLE

 People are very dired and to the point.  Honesty is expected and appreciated.  Humor plays a big roll.  People tease and joke in conversation but arrogance is looked down upon.  It’s best to be humble and modest. 
PERSONAL SPACE AND TOUCHING
Like in New Zealand, people stand arm’s length apart during conversations.  They do not touch opposite sex collegues.
 
VIEWS OF TIME
They are a laid back culture.  Buses and trains do run on time for the most part.  Punctuality tends to be valued more in business than social.
 
GENDER ISSUES
Opportunies for women are varied and available.  Women hold positions of power in various arenas.
GUESTURES
The “V” sign for “victory” or “peace” is shown with the palm facing outward.  If the palm is inward the signs become rude.
 
TABOOS
Extending the middle finger is rude.  Sexist/racist language is rude.
