Good-morning from Phnom Penh, Cambodia!

It’s beautiful here in Phnom Penh, and my team and I are excited to have a couple days of rest before heading out to ministry. I’m working on writing some things from Nepal, but for now here are some things I’ve come to learn entering into month 3 of the World Race…enjoy.

1. Even as an extreme introvert, I now get lonely when away from my teammates for more than a half hour.

2. Air-conditioning = luxury.

3. Seeing the occasional rat or cockroach in a restaurant ain’t no big thing.

4. You may think you would never get used to ants and other unidentified bugs in your bed…wrong.

5. The concept of sharing is much different on the Race; what’s your team’s is your team’s, what’s yours is your team’s…

6. It really is possible to survive on 5 outfits…really.

7. If you’re considering going on the Race and think the weight of your pack doesn’t matter, you’re wrong. 40 pounds and under is the way to go.

8. There is so much freedom in not watching any forms of movies or television; I have wasted so much precious time at home!

9. Your heart WILL be softened if you go to the nations; I have seen people with nothing show more joy and compassion to others than I’ve ever seen at home. I’ve also learned so much and realized that there is so much more to the world than I ever imagined.

10. The World Race isn’t about “The World Race”. It’s about aligning our hearts to God’s heart for the world; about being broken for the ‘least of these’ and giving them a voice that they don’t normally have; about loving more; going to hard places and seeing hard things so that the walls of injustice and ignorance can begin to be broken down; about abandoning our selfish desires just for a little bit to serve in beautiful ways.

11. Even now, even though it’s only month 3, I will never be the same again.

Thanks for reading, and for keeping up with my journey so far! Friends, I have learned and experienced so much here on the Race, and it is my desire to keep serving! BUT in order to stay past Cambodia and Thailand, I have to have $11,000 in my support account by October 1st. I’m currently at $8, 132. Thank-you to everyone who has supported me up until now! If you would like to share this blog post, that would be wonderful. If you would like to donate, simply go to the “Support Me” tab on the left side of this blog. Thank-you!
