On our team’s second day of village ministry, we met a widow whose story broke our hearts. We came to her small home, and met her crouched in the doorway, too weak to stay standing. She was blind, her eyes glazed white. Maggie and Howard knelt down to meet her, and she began to tell them about her family. Her daughter had died a few years ago, leaving a husband and two children. All four of them now lived together in this one-room house. The two children, around 6 and 10 years old, had been taken out of school so they could work to help support the family. She asked us to pray for her family and for her health.

As Maggie and Howard laid hands on her and prayed, she began crying. Drew and I couldn’t get into the doorway, so we stood back praying and watching the scene unfold. This woman was crumpled and weeping, just bones and fabric, her head covered by a shawl. Not able to see, she reached out and held on to all she could grasp of my teammates. Her shaking hands found Howard and Maggie, who I believe were Jesus to her in that moment. They embraced the widow as we all prayed for healing in her body and peace for her family. We left her house heartbroken, crying, and confident that the Spirit was doing a work in that place.

Two days later, Drew and Maggie returned to her village during our free time, after the Lord called them to take food to the family. When they arrived at her home, she was overjoyed. The Lord had given her new eyes! She looked right at Maggie, pointing to her new eyes, no longer glazed with blindness. She was praising Jesus, thanking Him for the healing, as well as for the gift of food. I only saw a picture of her from that day, but even a picture was enough to see that the joy of the Lord was radiating off of her. I was honestly taken aback by that picture, blown away and blessed to see that her eyes were clear and looking right at the camera.

Our God is Healer! Our whole team is praising Him for letting us see this testimony. Healing blindness is beyond amazing, and allowing us to see it was just the icing on top. Our team does ministry in a new village every day, so re-visiting this woman would not have happened without the Lord calling Drew and Maggie to do so. God is so good!
