the last few days have seemed to fly by… i can’t believe how quickly our time in Greece is going by…
some of the things that have stuck out to me the most by being in Greece are the little things. first off everything costs a lot more than everywhere else we’ve been. one of the biggest / best things is being woken up in the morning by the sound of church bells rather than the Muslim call to prayer! while in Cairo, Egypt, we were surrounded by about 9 mosques which were all on a different time schedule so we heard the call to prayer all day long… here there is a huge in Greece, there is a huge Christian population so we get to hear the sound of church bells on the hour ~ how beautiful! the consept of dress has changed around me drastically as well – i did not see even an ankle or hardly a wrist in Cairo and well lets just say i’ve seen a lot more here in Greece.
the fact that we are in Greece and retracing the steps of the apostle Paul is still sinking in…  a couple of days ago we were sitting on the hill (
Areopagus – Acts 17:19)
where Paul preached to the people of Athens, we were looking over the ancient city (at least the little parts that were still standing) that he would have looked upon as he shared the word of God, and as we looked up we could see the
Acropollis where all of the people would climb the hill to worship their idols. yesterday we were at the foot of
Mt. Olympus – the home of the gods, we even experienced a little storm in the mountain – the reason they thought the gods lived there and why Zeus threw lightning bolts. today we arrived in
Thessaloniki. home to the letters of 1 & 2 Thessaloninans! we are going to go to the place where they think that Paul escaped from Jason’s house when he had to flee Thessaloniki. we are going to go to church at a place that they believe Paul spoke at (our hotel reception guy goes there and has offered to bring us!, plus his brother is a priest in Kavala where we are headed next – near Philipi). Please keep us in your prayers as Ashley drives (she’s awesome at it by the way!) and that we would continue to grow closer together as friends and sisters and that we will continue to grow closer to God as we see these amazing sites.
sorry, pictures will have to wait until later…..
love,
