WOW!!! – Wait…What? When? Where? Why? Who?
WOW!!!
This is the one word that I have heard over and over again as I have shared about my decision to join The World Race.
WOW!!!
It is a word that came to my own mind back in January when God first called me to this journey.
Wow, God! Really?
This new path that God is calling me down is different than what I expected and planned.
It is risky. It is uncomfortable. It is terrifying.
It is amazing!
It is a big WOW!
WOW!!!
In conversations, following the initial WOW,
I am met with the whole slew of W-words that we use to question.
What? When? Where? Why? Who?
And then there is of course the How?, which actually does not start with W, but we include it.
Anyways…
Due to the plethora of questions that I have received, I have decided to record some of the specific details here on my blog.
So, here we go…
What?
Don’t worry this has nothing to do with running or being on TV.
The World Race is a journey to 11 countries in 11 months to serve the least of these among real and raw community.
The World Race in partnership with Adventures in Mission focuses on bringing education and empowerment in a global context through the power of the Gospel.
This unique mission trip is a challenging adventure for young adults (21-35) to abandon worldly possessions and a traditional lifestyle in exchange for an understanding that it’s not about oneself; it’s about the Kingdom.
It is about the Mission, the Adventure, and the Discipleship.
Mission
The Great Commission commands us as Christians to “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” We send out hundreds of World Racers each year seeking to fulfill the great commission wherever they go.
Adventure
We send Racers to serve 11 countries in 11 months, all while living out of a backpack. Racers experience how others live as they are immersed into new cultures, forming lasting relationships with people who bring fresh perspective
Discipleship
Jesus discipled his followers, and it is His model we desire to follow. Through mentors, coaches, and fellow racers, we disciple Racers while they serve and disciple others. After the World Race, we hope Racers are better trained to make a lasting impact in their local communities.
The World Race currently serves in dozens of countries across the globe spanning from the tip of South America to the vast wild of Mongolia. Adventures in Missions, based out of Gainesville, Georgia, sends out squads on different routes throughout the year.
In January 2016, God placed The World Race on my radar. He was saying, “Cary. Cary. Cary!” After that God and I talked, a lot! I told my family about all that God was calling me to on Super Bowl weekend (Go Broncos!), February 7, 2016. I began the application process. I was officially accepted April 6, 2016 (A day before my 24th birthday!). Since then, I have had so much peace about the entire thing. I believe that God has specifically called me to this, and I am here to leave every comfort I know to spread His love!
What will you be doing?
To be honest, I do not know the exact details regarding ministry.
I will probably not know until I am in country.
The World Race connects teams to local non-profits, churches, and ministries in each country to bring love, assistance, hope, resources, and healing. Ministry will come in a variety of different forms. From orphan care to prison ministry to fixing fences to picking mangos to teaching English to caring for young prostitutes, we will be serving, loving, and sharing wherever we may be.
I am going on The World Race!
When?
I will be leaving for The World Race January 2017.
I will be on this adventure from January to November.
Where?
My squad and I will be living and loving in
Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, Rwanda, Uganda, Ethiopia, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, and the Philippines.
Why?
Because God has changed my heart.
He saved me.
He has loved me.
He loves me.
He as put a passion inside me.
He has called me.
Over the past of six years, God has changed my life in so many ways, unimaginable ways. He has called me back to Him. As our relationship has grown, I have surrendered control of my life to Him. Through this surrender and His faithfulness and plan, my journey is different. As I am following His path, I want to be glorifying to Him.
Why am I going on The World Race?
TO LOVE
To Love God
To Love Others
TO KNOW GOD
TO MAKE GOD KNOWN
Who?
I will be living in real and raw community with a squad of individuals from across the globe. The international squad component of my route is what makes this route unique! This route is called The Fusion Route because it allows for the nations to fuse together and serve God’s kingdom.
“If your heart is for the nations, walk with them..”
This is what my Fusion Squad will allow me to do!
On Earth As It Is In Heaven!
How?
Through The Grace of God!
(Thank You Jesus!)
And
Support from amazing people… Like You!
Will you prayerfully consider partnering with me on The World Race?
This is a great opportunity to bring and display the love of God across the nations.
PRAYER
I am looking for people who will commit to pray for me and encourage me as I prepare for this trip, while I am in route, and when I return home.
Will you pray for me and my squad as we go to love and serve around the world?
Financial Support
I am also in need of people to support me financially.
In order to go, I must fundraise $16,617. The funds will cover the costs for the 11 month trip. This includes meals, lodging, air, land and sea travel, administrative costs, set up costs, coaching costs, and training costs.
You can make tax-deductible, financial contributions by clicking here…
I am at peace with this new development in my life. God is guiding my feet to The World Race. As scary as it might be, I have peace and confidence. I know the risks I am taking and that some people will not understand. I’m risking a lot for God’s Kingdom and yes, it is absolutely worth it!

“How beautiful on the mountains
are the feet of the messenger bringing good news,
Breaking the news that all’s well,
proclaiming good times, announcing salvation,
telling Zion, “Your God reigns!””
