Well Howdy,
My name is Carter Groves and I am going on the World Race next January! I just wanted to give you a little information about myself to let you get to know me as to better understand my background and what the World Race means to me.
First off I am from Montreat, North Carolina. It’s a small town in the middle the Blue Ridge Mountains and probably the best place on Earth. I am 21 years old and come from a decently big family with my mom and dad, three sisters, Hannah, Sarah, and Ellie, and a brother, McGowan. I am both a big and little brother.
Due to my living situation I love the outdoors because I really do not have another choice. Ultimate Frisbee is played every Sunday after church and a walk around town consist of hiking the mountain you live on, flat surfaces are hard to find.
Sarcasm and jokes are some of the pillars of my communication.
I enjoy reading and History, and when you put those two together my book shelf gets pretty big. Since being in college people ask me what book is that class for and I have to admit that it is for personal reading. But with this I have grown so interested in other cultures and there History because most of the time their lives can tell a story so much more interesting than the best selling novel. I love connecting with people. I would rather have a group of close friends than a hundred that I give an occasional “Hi” to. Long meaningful conversations to me are more valuable than anything.
I will get more into this in my first Blog but just as a quick summary… I love Jesus. There. Cut. Print. We are good. But I wish it was that easy to explain why I felt called to the World Race.
After my first mission trip to Cambodia I grew a passion for helping others. I saw things some people will never know about or here in passing on the news or social media. In Cambodia I saw the sex trafficking industry up close. My team worked with a local ministry that helped hundred of kids in the capital who were suffering in the industry. I think about those memories everyday.
But God is better.
I believe the World Race will give me not just an adventure but a chance to change the lives of hundreds suffering from similar problems and step out in faith to bring others to Christ.
