Working in Nicaragua is so different. We have been working at the church that we are ministering with this month. However, the work that we are doing is often very different from how it would be done in the states. Due to the fact that the people here do not have the same tools and equipment that is found on construction sites in the states, the people here are very innovative in the way things are done.
In ministry so far, we have done some interesting things. One day we moved about 2200 bricks from one area to another area that is closer to the building that is being built. It was a job that in the states with pallets and forklifts would have taken probably less that an hour; but, instead took us all day. In the end the stack was long and taller than me.
We also helped to make cement by hand. This is also something that often would have been done by a mixer or machine in the states. Here we took sand, gravel rocks, and cement and mixed in a big pile on the ground.
Then carried it by buckets to the area where it needed to be poured, and then poured into barriers made out of wood that took like thirty minutes to make before you could start pouring. It was another task that took longer than in the states. In the end, I was amazed at how good it turned out.
Join me in praying for the people of Palacaguina, Nicaragua. They are such a warm and hard working people, and they have already stolen my heart.
