So, we have been in Costa Rica for a few days. We have been able to experience a few different types of ministry, but today sort of took me by surprise. We went to Cafetal today, which is an old, abandoned, coffee field. The field is covered with darkness. It has become a place of homeless men stay, where they can drink and do drugs freely. It is also a cheap place for prostitutiion.

As you can see above it is covered in trash. when we stepped into the area, I could just feel the sin and darkness laying over the Cafetal. The experience of attempted to clean this area was humbling. Our ministry host told us no matter how long we spent cleaning, we would have never been able to get all the trash cleaned. If we were actually successful, it would be back in the same condition the next week.

After we spent the full day cleaning, I was proud of what we accomplished. A small section was changed. Light was brought to some of the darkness. My prayer is that God will move and this area will be demolished and made into something that brings light to Alajuelita. This field is located in the center of town, directly behind the Catholic Church which is the center of the town. Wouldn't it be amazing if this place could be changed into a place that brings life and light instead of darkness!?!
