Wherever we go, people want us to teach English. If I knew I was signing up for a mission trip for ESL majors, I probably wouldn’t have applied.
I never thought that teaching English would be considered “ministry,” yet I’ve done it in every country I’ve been to on the World Race. Sometimes it’s easy to feel like we’re not actually doing anything, changing anything, or even showing God’s love in a 50 minute class where only half of the kids understand what you’re saying.
But this is where God has us. He has us teaching, preaching, and running children’s programs this month.
As little and insignificant as teaching English can look, it is where God has brought us. And He uses those who follow Him in mighty ways. His view of “mighty” and “big” is different than our own. Even love given to one child would be worth the whole trip to Cambodia in His eyes. That one child is special enough to Him. That one child still needs Him just as much as we do.
“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.” (Colossians 3:23-24)
