It was a Wednesday.
3:15 pm – an hour an a half behind schedule.
A rescheduled activity – add another week behind schedule.
A hot, white knuckled public bus ride.
Sweaty legs, sweaty arms and for some, sweat wet pants in inappropriate places.
Where are we going you might ask?
What one might think was a simple task of going to El Salvador's largest cathedral downtown to pray for the city to be a easy done and done situation but our team was feeling the stress of a stretched personal timeline. Why did it always get cancelled? Why was the idea always swept under the rug? Little minds produce little plans.
Ok, ok… so it was a Wednesday, 3:15pm, sweat stained and entering a beautiful large church in a …lively…eclectic area of the city. It was large, simple, elegantly detailed and memorable -remind you of anyone? I kid, I kid! After wondering around, taking pictures (which hope to post), I sat down with some of my teammates and contact/translator/superstar Jenny to start to pray. They started to set up a podium and microphone so I leaned over to Jenny and asked her if they were going to do a service. She wasn't sure so she went up to the front to ask a women standing there.
Good news. Not behind schedule.
You see, that women who's name is Naomi had come in to this church on this afternoon to ask for holy water. Her grandson Moses of 3 months was killed by her daughter and she was coming from the morgue to get water to bless the child before they buried him.
This is why our calendars suck.
My teammates and I had the opportunity to pray for her (with Jenny translating) and I could hear God telling me to pray for Moses. As soon as I started I immediately started to cry. The lyrics of 'break my heart for what breaks yours' has new meaning for me. I could feel my heart breaking for this women and child. That this child of His was feeling so much pain and sorrow for her grandson and daughter and that this precious baby had such a short life and had a tragic ending. But I could also see God holding Moses and showing him love no earthly parent or grandparent could show. We also had the opportunity to share that God wants to give forgiveness to the family if they were willing to except His love and son.
God's calendar is a waiting game. Winners wanted. Who wants to play?
