I’m a survivor. *Cue theme music*

Training camp is an experience that is hard to put into words, but I learned so much! Let’s just say they pack as many intentional scenarios in one week, which brings me to a mini survivors guide to training camp.

  1. Do not have expectations. I don’t know about you, but all my life I was told to set high expectations and don’t stop until you get there! Yah, uhhh…. check those at the airport my friends. In fact it’s better to not have any. Then things are only going up for you. You also probably don’t know you have any until they are not met.
  2. Treasure your quiet time. You never know when you will get alone time, aka iPod time, but when the moment presents its self – take it.
  3. Have an open mind to food intake. Type, quantity, frequency, all of the above. Fish soup for breakfast never hurt anyone right? Also, clean hand = spoon.
  4. Don’t sweat the small stuff. You will eventually shower, or sleep. God’s got you. I promise the Holy Spirit will make you clean and new, rested and restored.
  5. Big aspirations require big people. Even though we are a group of weak and broken people, we all believe God has called us to do big things in His name. Getting to know each of my squad and team mates, as well as learning just a snippet of what God is doing and has done in our lives, I know He has put this squad and my team together according to His will. Learning about each other’s personality and worship styles makes me believe I am in for some serious growing in the year to come. Bring it on!
  6. Sleeping pad worth every penny.
  7. The more bodies in a tent equals more body heat, which equals a great night sleep. Who knew Georgia would be so cold? And just because I am from Canada does not mean I have some kind of internal parka.
  8. Backpacks are heavy. Pack light.
  9. I am a women, and I am vulnerable.
  10. I serve a capital A, Awesome God.

I realize that this is a small blurb of the past week and to go through all the details… well I don’t want to ruin the surprise for those racers to come! But let me tell you, I am so excited to share the power of Jesus and His love so easily given and received. Survivor of training camp and survivor of cancer (as of four years ago today. Praise the Lord!), I am speechless of what a God I serve. Central America in January, here I come!!
