In Galway we are serving with Discovery Church. It’s made up with members from all over the world. We meet people on Sunday mornings from Ghana, Spain, the states, Nigeria, Malaysia, and of course- Ireland. One of Discovery Church’s main goals is to be out in the community. They do this through service projects, evangelism, prayer teams, and… would you believe- fashion shows. They have some stellar leaders that have been giving us training and experience that we will be able to take with us for the rest of this trip. This church has been nothing but a blessing to us. We’ve been fed at many of their houses. They have done our laundry. They have given us rides. They have served as examples of authority, power, boldness and humility. And, they have been our friends. I even found a peer who shares my love for Battlestar Galactica.
We’ve been serving the church, by painting houses, teaching sunday school, helping with the youth group, participating in ‘green teams’ who go out and clean the city and offer help to local businesses. I even got to play the bongos with the worship team a few weeks ago. For outreach, we’ve been talking to people in the city, offering free hugs, doing face painting, and sharing with the homeless.
This month has been phenomenal. Ireland is beautiful- it’s just like any movie, postcard, representation of it I have seen before. Yes, it rains a lot. Yes, we are sleeping outside in tents in the rain. But, still counts as beautiful.
So far, serving with ministries and organizations has been about what we can pour out. We usually go to church services and they ask us to speak, which is totally cool, but it’s been so refreshing to be in a place of receiving. The church has been able to pour into us so that we can pour into the community.
