“It only takes a spark to get a fire going…that’s how it is with God’s love once you experience it.” – Pass It On

Growing up, I heard these lines from the hymn “Pass it On” often from my Dad, especially before he would go ballooning. Hymns are some of my favorite songs to sing, because the words are so powerful and true.

The spark of going on the World Race was planted in my heart long before I knew about it. As a teenager in high school, I had the best math teacher, Ms. Lamm. Her passion for math lit a spark in me to share the wonder of math with others. As a college student, there were quite a few rallies for the Invisible Children impacted by warfare in Africa. This movement lit a spark in me to one day go to Africa. After college, I participated in the LIFT discipleship program run through CAMP-of-the-WOODS in Speculator, NY. It was during this semester of learning and growing in intentional Christian community that a spark was lit to live every day in a manner worthy of the gospel, a life on mission.

It has been almost eight years since I participated in LIFT. During those years I have been teaching in North Carolina public schools – sharing my love for mathematics and praying that the students sense the joy of the Lord in me through my actions and speech. I watched two of my friends leave for the World Race and complete their 11 month journey around the world. I was touched by all the Lord taught them and how He used their obedience to impact both people at home who were supporting through prayer/financially and the people abroad who they were in direct contact with on a daily basis.

The sparks that were lit have become a fire. A passionate fire to explore the beautiful world the Lord has created, share the truth of His love for all the nations, and invite my friends and family at home to join in this journey with me.

So will you join me? Will you pray with me as we explore the world and the truth of God’s grace together?
