Abba,

I am overwhelmed with gratitude when I think of this life you have given me. Thank you for allowing me to grow up in a country where I have the freedom to obtain an education. The freedom to speak. The freedom to worship. The freedom to be who you’ve called me to be.

Thank you, Father, that even still, this isn’t all you have for me. That you’ve promised us more. You’ve given us the promise of Heaven — a perfect place, free from the hurt, brokenness, and corruption that has destroyed your Perfect design. What a joy it will be when I get to live in the fullness of that promise! I thank you that you are a Father who loves His children and desires so much more for them than a life plagued by the brokenness that our world is currently in.

Jesus, I want to pray for peace over our nation during these next few weeks and months. I pray that in the midst of what seems like the most incredible divide, you would be the One that unites your people. I thank you that you are the Prince of Peace and that you are a God who desires unity among His people. Thank you that you aren’t a bipartisan Father and that you love each of your children so personally and so individually, regardless of where they stand on our nation’s political spectrum. I ask today for your supernatural peace to flood the states, the cities, the towns, the neighborhoods, and the homes of every person living in this country.

I thank you that you are Sovereign and that you already know the outcome of this election. That you’ve known the outcome since before the beginning of time. I thank you that your hand is so evidently moving and working in this country and ask that your Name would be glorified through all of the turmoil we feel as though we’re currently in. I trust that you are bigger. Thank you, Father, that you are the same God who led the Israelites out of Egypt. The same God that parted the sea to make your way known. The same God who sent Manna to provide for His people in the wilderness. Who caused the walls of Jericho to fall. Who closed the mouths of the lions to protect your son Daniel. Who delivered Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego from the fiery furnace and sent His angels to protect them in the heat. Who healed the sick, raised the dead, allowed the blind to see and the deaf to hear. You are a God who can — and WILL — do immeasurably more than we could ever ask for or imagine! And we rest in that. I pray that we would be a nation that experiences your miraculous nature first-hand and doesn’t take lightly the power of your Name.

In John 13:35, Jesus, you say that the world will know that we are your disciples by the way we love one another. And so I pray, above all, that regardless of the outcome of the upcoming presidential election, that we as the Church would be a people who love those around us harder than ever before. That we would be a people that puts into practice what it looks like to love our neighbors in the way that you have called us. I pray that we would be a people who look like Love above all else.

Thank you, Jesus, for the humbling reminder that you love each of the candidates running in this election as deeply as you love me. That when you look at each one of them, you see Jesus, your perfect son. Help me never forget that you call them your children and that you desire their hearts as much as you desire mine. And thank you, Father, that in the same way you love me, you equally love those who don’t vote the same way as me. You see the far-left and the far-right and everyone in between in the exact same way— as full — and worthy — recipients of your perfect Love. We were so undeserving, yet you sacrificed your Perfect Son for every single one of us.

Jesus, I pray leading up to November 3rd that we would be a people on our hands and knees, bowed before your throne. That we would be a people crying out for our broken country on behalf of our brothers and sisters, pleading for your mercy to rescue us from the brokenness we’re living in. Asking that your hand would be so evident in this election and that only your glory would shine through it.

Thank you, Father, that you don’t leave me where I am. That when you look at me you see me as the perfect image of your son. And that you will continue to give me more as I ask for it, transforming me day by day to look more like Jesus.

All I have is yours, Father. Align the desires of my heart with yours today. And help me to wait patiently with peace for the fulfillment of your promises. I trust that you are Good and that you will provide, in your timing.

Amen.

“There is none like you among the gods, O Lord, nor are there any works like yours. All the nations you have made shall come and worship before you, O Lord, and shall glorify your name. For you are great and do wondrous things; you alone are God. Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name. I give thanks to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart, and I will glorify your name forever. For great is your steadfast love toward me; you have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol.” Psalm 86:8-13
