About two years ago, I stumbled upon a few instagram accounts of people who were experiencing some of the most beautiful creation and cultures, all while spreading the love of God. Through posts, I got to peek into the amazing ways God was moving in these people’s lives and I was amazed. I could not believe how lucky these people were to experience such powerful stories and breathtaking countries. After watching and following the race from a distance, I want to experience first-hand rich cultures, God’s beautiful creation, and be part of an amazing community; but most importantly, I want to go to spread Jesus to the ends of the earth and to experience the powerful movement of the Holy Spirit in a way like never before.
For months, I had no clue on whether or not this plan I had for my life was the same as God’s plan for mine. I was waiting for some big sign from God that I should go and apply. But then I realized I didn’t want to keep waiting around, so instead I decided to let God guide my path. I felt like my “big sign” would be whether or not I got accepted, and God would simply open or close the door. He did just that, guided me and opened the door.
I watched the live stream of the route reveal and felt butterflies when they announced route three: Thailand, India, and Guatemala. For a couple years I have been so drawn to India and its culture. So, it was only fitting that this happened to be the only route that goes to India. Next, I decided to start my application. Next thing I know I get a call that I have been accepted to the World Race Gap Year. It all happened so fast. My dream became my reality.
Essentially, this gap year program is a nine month mission trip. I, with around fifty other 18-20 year olds, will be in each country for roughly three months carrying a backpack of everything tangible we own for those nine months. In each country I will be doing lots of different mission work fitting to that country. For example, fighting against human trafficking, youth ministry, teaching in schools, working with orphanages, and many other ways we can serve the people of each country all for the glory of God. Just like Mark 16:15 says, “He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation'”. Starting in September of 2019 I will begin this new exciting adventure. (And yes, to answer many questions, I’m still going to college. In August 2020, I will attend the University of Georgia. Go Dawgs!)
These verses from Passion’s song “More Like Jesus” are my prayer over these nine months…
here at your feet, my desires and dreams I lay down
if more of you
means less of me
take everything
yes all of you
is all I need
take everything
oh Lord
change me like only you can
here with my heart in you hands
Father I pray make me more like Jesus.
this world is dying to know who you are
you’ve shown us the way to your heart
so Father I pray,
make me more like Jesus
If you would like to support me, please do! I will need to fundraise $16,600 for my gap year. You can donate through my blog or buy one of my t-shirts and sweatshirts! you can find these here:https://www.bonfire.com/be-good-do-good/ They will be for sale from Nov. 24-December 14th.
