I was reading a Donald Miller book again, this one titled, “Searching for God Knows What”. And upon reading the chapter on war, “Children of Chernobyl” I started thinking a lot. There is a moment that Miller said, “…I know I would have done it myself; that if I’d had him [Hitler] in the crosshairs of a gun I would have pulled the trigger. I get very angry at injustice. Give me a gun and I would have killed Stalin, who slaughtered 60 million, or for that matter Lenin. I can’t think of any other solution. You can’t let evil run wild, can you? War is difficult like that. It is complicated.”
And my stomach churned. How many times have I just wished someone would have the guts to kill Joseph Kony instead of letting him run around maiming children and forcing them to take lives. And conviction set in as I remembered the words of the Christian Rapper Lacrae. I knew at that point that I sin every day, and I HATE the ones who sin differently like Hitler and Kony…but I can’t do any better myself. Seriously, I just committed murder in my mind.
Just listen to Lacrae spit the truth below and tell me if you can still keep the same mindset:
“Some people say that God ain’t real cuz they can’t see how a good God can exist with all this evil in the world. If God is real, then He should stop all this evil, cuz He’s all powerful, right? What is evil though man? It’s anything against God. It’s anything morally bad or wrong. It’s murder, rape, lying, cheating. But if you want God to stop evil, do you want Him to stop it all? Or just a little bit of it? If He stops us from doing evil things, then what about lying, or what about our evil thoughts? I mean, where do you stop, the murder level? The lying level? Or the thinking level? Cuz if you want Him to stop evil, you have to be consistent. You can’t just pick and choose. That means you and I will be eliminated, right? Because we do evil stuff. If that is true, we should be eliminated. BUT thanks be to God, that Jesus stepped in and saved us from our sins. Christ died for ALL the evil, repent and turn to Jesus, man.”
