We made it across the border relatively easily. And here we are for our two days of R&R in Siem Reap before heading into the bush of the Cambodian Jungle for ministry.
Today Brooke and I were trying to find a place to get coffee so we started wandering in the most authentic market I have seen in a while. Chiang Mai spoiled us with tourist oriented night markets. Yet today we stood in the mud, trying to ignore the smell of blood coming off of the pig head behind us, waiting for a motorbike to pass so that we could get away from the lady who was throwing the fish in the basket and subsequently splashing our legs with fish water. But the bike slowed to an almost stop waiting for us to give just a little more room. I just couldn’t bear getting any closer to the fish thrower…so at a standstill in the moment of confusion that seemed to last forever, I decided that being hit by a moto would beat being hit by a fish. Brooke and I never did find the coffee shop but we got to say hi to and high-five a ton of kids in the market. They were so friendly!
Anyway…on to out placement for the month of June.
We will be working at Teen Missions Cambodia. They have a children’s camp in the bush about 3 hours out of Phnom Pehn. We will do physical labor around the camp during the mornings and then work with the kids directly each afternoon. The place is rustic: We will be in our tents using a water pump to bathe and traveling quite a distance on the off days for internet and food other than the stuff we try to cook over the charcoal burner at camp. Also, we have been warned about sickness, snakes, and Millipedes that can cause Paralysis. So, as usual, I love your prayers.
This will actually be my last month in this missionary journey. I head out on the 24th of this month to see my church family in Korea before beginning my field study for Graduate School in Belize. God has great things in store, and things are slowly working out. It’s starting to hit me however, that I won’t be seeing these lovely people for quite some time after I leave the mission field. Goodbyes are so hard. So…yeah…prayers.
