Sometimes I look at things in life and think, “That will help prepare me for the World Race”. Let me tell you…moving is one of them. I drove up here which was an experience in itself. (To learn about my first time driving in the mountains visit: http://carolinesadventuresinlife.blogspot.com/)
Then I set my little pepper plant and lettuce plant outside my door in the sun, unloaded a few things, and drove an eternity to Walmart 45 mins away on scary roads.
The next morning I woke up to four inches of snow. MY POOR PLANTS! I tried to rescue them but I couldn’t even find the lettuce in the snow. I put them next to the heater as they drooped sadly. Sorry little guys.
The next order of business was to get the stuff I packed out of my car. However I came here wearing sandals (coming from the beach and all). And I am fairly certain that my work boots are in my trunk buried under everything (probably sitting right next to the oil quart..haha). So I had to run in the snow in sandals! This was a character building experience if I ever had one. And though I couldn’t find my shoes, I found a pair of dress boots that a friend left in my possession. They sure beat sandals so they will do while I unload the car.
As I bring my luggage into this little 12 square foot apartment, I track in mud and snow on my little concrete floor. So, basically I need to get everything indoors before I even start to clean and unpack. That is easier said than done as well, because I live up a hill and some things are too heavy for me.
Example: My card-table and chair set I picked up from Walmart yesterday. It is all in one box. And I had to roll this box up the hill in the snow. Just picture the last tire on the little engine who lived on the island of misfit toys. And that was what rolling a box looks like.
I needed a break so I decided to come to a coffee shop in the nearest town to blog about life and the move. As I went down my little dirt/snow road gravity won out over brakes and I just slid slowly out of control at odd angles until I spilled out onto the main road which was clear of snow. “Oh dear! How am I going to get back up that one?”
Prayers would be great as I get used to this completely different lifestyle in the mountains. And I will keep you all informed as to how the move goes. God is good and in all things….even the Snow!
