I am typing from the land of USD, wifi, water fountains that you can drink out of, and toilet seat covers. Here at the airport I think a little about things.
Three days ago I was sitting on a mountain top park looking over the city of Quito (at least the small part I could see) when Squadmate said to me, “We are living in a world of ants”. Though he was right, the little bustling city below us, I didn’t think too much of it.
On the flight to our heavenly US soil where my parents were waiting to feed me on my 20 hour layover, I found myself impatiently looking at the ground. Landing seemed to take forever, and I couldn’t help but think of the little cars and small dot people that were below. “My parents are ants down there…waiting for me!” As small as they were from the high-up perspective…they are the world to me.
It made me think of this upcoming month. Our ministry in Malawi is a little different than other months. Instead of working with one ministry we are searching for new ministry contacts. They call this unsung hero month. My new team of seven will travel the country prayerful and led by the Spirit, to find new ministries to partner with. It will be a month full of travel and full of amazing opportunities for divine appointments.
But, why does a world of ants make me think of this? Well…as many people as there are in Malawi, they mean the world to someone. I don’t have to make contacts with all of them. I don’t need to touch every life or every ministry. Just by being me, and loving them, and listening to the Spirit, I will do well.
An example is that today going through security I fell into conversation with with two separate people. Both ended up hearing about the mission, and one elderly man asked if he could give me the last hug I would have on US soil. After my hug I thought about how easy it is to love people. And I thought again about the ants. I saw in my mind love spreading like a disease…I saw all the little dots in this world touching and forever changing the other….then that one touching changing another…and so on.
A world of ants, slowing changing because people mean the world to each other.
(Perhaps that’s a little out there…but there it is. Excited to see what God has planned this month.)
