Dear friends, don’t be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you.

REFLECTION. No seed bears fruit without the sun. In the same way, our inner self will never grow without the fire of suffering.

Hence, do not complain about the cross God has given you. Rather thank Him for working in you and being concerned about you.

PRAYER. Faithful God, give me strength to accept my sufferings. Let them bear fruit in my life.

Today at work, I suffered a minor injury. I had an arthroscopy on my right knee about two years ago, they took out about 85% of my meniscus which means it’s mostly bone to bone contact. This is fine, a lot of people live healthy and normally active lives without their meniscus but it seems that every time I am doing really well, something happens.

Every month we are required to swim for 12 consecutive minutes, sometimes we have specific styles we have to swim and sometimes it’s a free for all. Today, I overexerted and my knee was throbbing.

I was very upset up until ten minutes ago when I read my daily devotion in a small but wonderful book called Minute Meditations for Each Day by Rev. Bede Naegele, O.C.D.

What this devotion told me if that I shouldn’t allow myself to be beaten, specially by my knee. It seems strange because it doesn’t happen all the time, I’ve only felt these pains a handful of times since my surgery but it happens for a reason. I think it happens to remind me of the struggle I went through post-op and how I need to not take for granted that I have my two legs, both feet and a healthy, functioning body and to remind me that I need to continuously care for and be aware of my body.

Don’t be discouraged when something that seems rather unnecessary happens to you because it’s just a nudge to remind you to keep going, to move forward and to make you stronger.
