Happy New Year!!!
So what did you do on New Year’s eve? Did you throw a big party with loud music & confetti?…or perhaps you sat on the couch with your family & waited for the ball to drop? I bet you didn’t count down in the middle of the Bangkok airport with your 37 other squad mates waiting to board a flight to Kenya, Africa?! Yes, on New Years eve, we traveled from Siem Reap, Cambodia to Bangkok, Thailand to hop on a plane to Kenya, Africa. How crazy is that for a New Year’s story?! It was quite a beautiful sun rise over Africa on New Years Day out my window of the plane. :]
I cannot believe that we have already spent 4 months in Asia and now we are already in Africa to begin our 5th month on The World Race. It is really exciting to be in a completely different part of the world. I mean, chicken fried rice is really yummy but after eating that for 4 straight months, you get a little tired of it. So it’s really nice to change things up a bit. AND would you guess that this is the hottest time of the year here in Nairobi and we are freezing in the mornings and evenings…?! Yes, it is quite the lovely change-up from hot & humid Asia to Africa with the chills & dry heat. I get to wear my favorite yellow cardigan more frequently, which makes my heart smile. ;]
This month we are working with DELIVERANCE CHURCH LANGATA this month in Nairobi, Kenya with their evangelism department.
It has been really exciting to be a part of the church here. Dancing in the services is a normal thing as well. So much fun!
So far we have done door-to-door evangelism at nearby apartments.
Jenny and I were partnered up the first day. As we awkwardly stood and knocked on the first few doors, many people were either not home or just refused to come to the door. The first people who actually came to their door were 2 Jehovah’s witnesses. Really ironic and quite funny since it was the Christian’s coming to their door. At least we all got a good laugh out of that one. We talked for a while until they had somewhere else to be. They did invite us to return later this week to continue our discussion.
Next, we met 2 lovely Christian women who invited us into their home. It was so much fun to be able to spend some time in fellowship with them & pray for them & even have some fun time to play with their young children. Very encouraging!
Our last stop of the day was with a 17 year old girl named Mercy. She was the “house guard” at one of the apartments. Just looking at her, she looked very sad and depressed, so we were a little worried about how she was feeling. While we sat on the couches in the home, we were able to share Jesus with her and the joy that He brings and, long story short, in the end she decided to ask Jesus into her heart!!! Hallelujah!..We have a new sister in Christ!
The next day, Jenny & I took a Bible to give to Mercy. Right when she opened the door, we could tell that she was so incredibly happy. A complete 180 degree transformation from the day before! She was also really excited to receive a Bible of her own. I am praying that she comes to church Sunday morning like we agreed. :]
We also stopped at the apartment below hers & the lady, known as Anna (which I really loved since it reminded me of my wonderful college roommate whom I miss), invited us into her home. She had a 6 month old baby girl who was just adorable. We sat on her couch in her lovely home and shared about our trip and just spent a wonderful time encouraging her as a fellow believer in Christ while she encouraged us as well. She even offered us a shower with running water! That is HUGE considering I haven’t showered in 5 days so far! ;] Sadly I had to get back for lunch so I couldn’t take her up on that offer. Maybe next time. Ha!
But yeah, God has really been doing a lot in my life recently! It reallyyy excites me when I think about it all! A lot of things are all starting to come together as well. I will share them with you very soon, I promise!!..I can’t hold it in much longer! :]
God has even just taken away my desires for many earthly things that have consumed my life for so long (even showering as you can tell! haha..partially kidding on that one! ;]) & He has been replacing them with an abundant, passionate desire to sit & dwell in the presence of the LORD at His feet!
