Good morning Vietnam
Have you ever tried to look at the sun?
I mean stare directly at it, until it hurts your eyes….
I do this somtimes, and I squint as I gaze up at one of GODs most beautiful creations. The longer you sit there it begins to feel as though you are being wrapped in light, enveloped almost, as if the sun would consume your very being at any moment. I then take a deep breath and I refocus on the world around me.
Welcome to Vietnam…
A closed country to the Gospel, a communist nation, and a part of the 10/40 window.
And yet the sun still shines here.
JESUS is alive in Vietnam…
I began this month in somewhat of an awkward place, to be honest I wasn't looking forward to coming to Vietnam. Mostly because I wasn't looking forward to leaving Cambodia, one of my favorite World Race countries, and yet I knew that GOD had amazing things in store here. We began our month by doing prayer walks in the park, and finding random people to talk to. There are a TON of young students who are learning English in Vietnam so usually when they see a foreigner they just walk up to them, introduce themselves and start talking.
One day inparticular I was sitting in the park writing, and I felt GOD leading me to go and talk with someone. I ran into a young medical student who needed help with pronunciation of her medical terms. I helped her as best I could, and finally she asked what I was doing in Vietnam, so I told her honestly that I was a missionary. Her response "what's that"? I told her well I am a Christian, and still she had no clue what that meant. Finally I decided to use the name of the most famous Man to ever walk the earth, I told her " I am a follower of JESUS". She said "who"? I was astounded, and yet ecstatic to tell her who HE is. Sharing the Gospel to a new heart, warmed my heart, and I knew I had a purpose here too.
The next day she asked to meet me again in the park for more help, and I graciously agreed. Well let me tell you how GOD works. She pulled out her medical terms and we started to go over them, and then we came upon a word she didn't understand. The explanation of the word said you could find it mentioned in Leviticus, yes the book of Leviticus in the bible. She wanted to know more, so I pulled out my bible and showed her Leviticus. She was excited to make that connection between the bible and her work. I explained to her that in this book she could learn more about JESUS, and what it means to be a Christian, and I honestly believe she understood me.
The LORD plants seeds all the time…
This month in Vietnam has been a lot of being Holy Spirit led, and seeking out what GOD wants you to do for ministry. It is catering a lot to the specific people HE places on your heart, and going where HE leads you. It has actually been refreshing to allow GOD to operate with me outside of a schedule, I have gotten to spend quality time with people and build deeper connections with GODs precious children. I have also had a small taste of home, Vietnam is slightly advanced and we have had the opportunity to work and do ministry in coffee shops, in the theatre and in offices.
Its been a blessing to serve here…
