Dear Reader,
Being a senior in high school I often look back on my life as a younger child. The memory that most comes to mind is nine year old Carly with a dream. A dream to someday live in Cambodia and love on the people there. I had it all planned out in multiple journals and scrap paper. Don’t ask me why I chose Cambodia, for some reason God just placed it on my heart. However, as nine year old Carly grew into ten year old Carly and then seventeen year old Carly, the dream of one day living in my ideal country seemed unreachable. I put in my head that my life was to be college, marriage, job, kids, retire. Maybe a mission trip here or there.
God chose differently.
I was informed about the World Race Gap Year which is a program where people 18-22 years of age go to three countries for a total of nine months. Never in a million years did I see myself going on this trip. However, I sensed that the Lord was putting this in front of me for a reason. He wanted me to walk out my faith, not just praise Him from my church scenery. Once ready to take this step, God let me in on some news.
My gap year route would be going to Cambodia for three months.
Through this I will have a team of people my age who are eager to see God’s love shown throughout the world, and together we will serve the communities of Guatemala, Lesotho, and Cambodia. Not only will we be able to spread the good love of Jesus, but we will be able to help orphan children, build up churches, pray and minister to those stuck in human trafficking, and just love on God’s people.
One of the challenges that I will come across is my financial support. To be able to get on my plane and go I need to raise $13,805. I can not do this by myself. As I step into this God-given journey, I am putting all my faith into His plan and trusting that He will provide every single financial need that I face.
